The Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) has recently been expanded in London which may affect some our customers who deliver into the affected postcodes. The ULEZ operates in London 24 hours a day, 7 days a week (excluding Christmas Day), to help reduce air pollution in the city. Vehicles which do not meet the ULEZ emissions standard, including specialist vehicles and lorries, are charged a daily penalty when travelling inside the zone. These penalties mean that UK logistics and distribution companies such as Acclaim are impacted, often resulting in unavoidable surcharges.
The ULEZ is reviewed regularly by Transport for London, with the last review resulting in an expansion to the zone on 29th October, with the changes going into effect on 1st November. By widening the area to include more postcodes, there have been additional surcharges for hauliers across the country. What is the aim of the expanded ULEZ?
By expanding the ULEZ, Transport for London hope to reduce harmful nitrogen dioxide emissions by around 30% across London. The expanded zone now includes roads inside the North and South Circular, stretching north to Palmers Green, south to Forest Hill, east to Barking and west to Ealing. Similar low emission zones have also been implemented this year in cities across the UK including Birmingham, Bath, Oxford and York.
